Lego™ in the Library! Create an original Lego™ scene and bring it into the library for display beginning January 3rd. Lego structures will be on display for the entire month of January for everyone to admire. Each child who brings in a display will receive a special award from the library. Please register if you are planning to participate, so that we will be sure to have enough space.

Amerks’ Reading Power Play -Wednesday, January 5th at 6:30pm. Meet up with a Rochester Americans Hockey Team player as he reads to visitors and gives a hockey demonstration. This appearance also features a raffle for Amerks’ memorabilia plus an autograph session by the visiting player and the Moose mascot! Child participants will each receive a ticket voucher good for one complimentary ticket for any future Amerks home game. Using a “Hat Trick” as a thematic vehicle, kids in Grades K-12 will also fill out a form for every three books they read from December 1st through January 25th, which then qualifies them for an entry into a grand prize drawing. All details and registration forms will be available at the library.

Game Days! For kids ages 6 -10 on Tuesdays, January 11th and 18th from 3:30-4:30pm.Come and play our new Pictureka and Monopoly games and have an after-school snack. These games are fast and fun and easy to learn. Space is limited and registration is required. Tell your friends!

Tiny Tots Story Time: for children ages 2-3 years old. This program will be held on Thursday mornings at 11:30 am-Noon on January 13th, 20th, and 27th.  This program includes simple stories, music and finger-plays. Parents will stay with their child during Story Time and are encouraged to participate in activities. Younger siblings are welcome too. Please register in advance for this program as space is limited.

Tail Waggin’ Tutors is Therapy Dog International’s reading program for reluctant readers, being held on Saturday, January 15th from 11:00 am-12:30 pm. What do you get when you bring children, dogs and books together? You get happy, confident children who love to read! Children and dogs bond together as the child reads a story to the dog. TDI is a volunteer organization dedicated to training therapy dogs. Sue Rawleigh and her dog Kohdie will offer this program to children in first through third grade on a limited basis. Children must register in advance and all information regarding this program will be available in the library.

Star Wars Saturday on January 22nd from 11:00 am-1:00 pm presented by The 501st Legion’s Garrison Excelsior. Children and parents will be able to meet Star Wars characters who will pose for pictures and sign autographs. Children are encouraged to come in costume and there will be a Star Wars related craft area for activities. Please register in advance for this exciting program. Bring your camera!

Home Alone Safety: When I’m in Charge presented by E.P.I.C. Trainings from 1:00-3:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 28th (no school for R-H students in K-8.). This program for ages 7-14 is designed to teach children who are home alone the importance of behaving responsibly. Topics include first aid, stranger danger, telephone & internet safety and more. The fee for this class is $18.00. Space is limited and registration is required.

First Aid Basics for Kids presented by E.P.I.C. Trainings from 3:30-5:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 28th (no school for R-H students in K-8.) This course for ages 11-16 teaches the skills and techniques necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to first aid related emergencies. The fee for this class is $12.00 and includes a certificate of completion. Space is limited and registration is required.
